Meet your candidate, Don Sanders
the voice of financial responsibility

Don Sanders will restore fiscal conservatism to Dallas' District 10...

Although I may not have had the pleasure of meeting you yet, I believe you know me. Perhaps we sat in the bleachers and cheered for our children at Lake Highlands High School. We may have chatted while purchasing Girl Scout cookies or Value Cards from the Boy Scouts. Maybe we waved at each other as we walked, (I walk the hike ‘n bike trail almost daily) jogged or biked for exercise or paused to admire the roses or Christmas decorations at the house across the street. Your house, perhaps? Your son or daughter may have given my car a badly needed wash to raise money for their school band or church camp. I might have handed you lumber as we worked together to build a house at Habitat for Humanity.

For the past 19 years, my family and I have had the privilege of living in Lake Highlands in District 10. Like you, we fell in love with the large trees, the excellent schools, and the charming homes in the area. We were drawn to the area for its wide streets, low crime rate and stable property values. Like you, we invested our time, our money and our energy in making our neighborhood the very best community in which to live and raise our family. Like you, we paid our taxes and stood in line to vote at our local precinct. And just like you, we expected our elected officials to serve our interests, protect our children and preserve our property values. And now, after 18 years of expecting more and getting less from city government, I, like you, have never been more disappointed by the waste of taxpayer money, reductions in basic city services, increasing crime and higher taxes.

If, like me, you are discouraged by the failure of your elected officials to represent your interests, then I ask that you help me help you. I seek your support in the race for Dallas City Council for District 10.

I bring 33 years of executive experience, having managed thousands of personnel -- and a $200 million budget -- during my career at Bank of America.  Since retiring from business in 2004, I have devoted my time to volunteer work, our grandsons and traveling with Sarah, my wife of 37 years. With the perspective of an executive who built companies with Bank of America and a volunteer who builds houses, I understand hard numbers and hard work. I bring a broad understanding of how to establish and work within budgets and complete projects on time. Three decades of business experience have taught me how to maximize profits by reducing operating costs and minimizing waste. These are basic economic principles seldom seen these days at City Hall.

My volunteer work with Children’s Medical Center, Habitat for Humanity and nonprofits has helped me realize that success in life is not measured by what we have, but by what we give. This realization compels me to enter this Council race as I believe I can make a difference in the lives of you and your families. With your help, your demand for a return to responsible government will be heard by our victory on Election Day. It will then be my charge and my opportunity to faithfully serve you and our community as your representative from District 10.
